How to judge one
Almost every Santa video service leads with the word “free”, and almost none of them mean the same thing by it. Once you strip that away, there are only four questions that actually separate them.
1. What does “free” buy?
A complete video? A watermarked preview? A trial that bills in seven days? A minute of credit per month? These are wildly different offers wearing the same word.
2. How personal is it, really?
A name from a pre-recorded library is not the same as a message that can mention the dog. Ask what the service can say that isn’t on a list.
3. How fast, and is there a deadline?
Anything physical has a posting cut-off in early December. Anything digital doesn’t. This decides it for a lot of people on the 23rd.
4. What happens to the data?
You are typing a child’s name and age into a website, and sometimes uploading a face. Whether that is deleted afterwards is a real question.
We’ve deliberately not quoted anyone’s prices. They change every season and half of them change mid-season. A comparison table full of last year’s figures is worse than no table — check the current price on each site before you decide.
The four kinds of Santa video service
Nearly every option on the market is one of these. Recognising which kind you’re looking at tells you more than any review.
Pre-recorded name libraries
The oldest and best-known approach — Portable North Pole is the obvious example. A real actor films a set of scenes and records a large library of names in advance, and the service assembles them. Genuinely warm, real footage, and the production values are usually the highest available.
Strength: it’s real film, and it looks it. Limit: the message can only ever say what was recorded. If your child’s name is unusual, or you want Santa to mention their swimming badge, it can’t.
Free, fast AI tools
Hey Santa is the reference point here, and it currently ranks first for most of these searches. Fully free, no account, delivered in a couple of minutes. It is a lean product that does one thing and does it without friction.
Strength: nothing between you and the video. Limit: less depth of personalization, and less control over the finished thing.
General AI video platforms with a Santa mode
Synthesia, HeyGen, CreatorKit and similar. These are business video tools with a seasonal template bolted on. Extremely capable, and largely aimed at people who already have an account for other reasons.
Strength: the underlying technology is very good. Limit: you are signing up to a SaaS product with a free tier measured in minutes per month, to make one Christmas video. The free plans exist to sell the paid plans.
Physical packages
Package From Santa and the various letter-and-parcel services. A box, a letter, sometimes a video alongside it.
Strength: a physical object survives in a way a file doesn’t. Limit: a hard posting deadline in early December, and the highest price of the four by a distance.
Where we fit, and where we lose
We are the third category with the personalization of the first: a generated script, a real-sounding voice, a choice of Santa and a choice of accent. The two things we’d point to are that Santa can mention things nobody recorded in advance, and that we never ask you to upload a picture of anybody.
Choose someone else if…
- You want a physical object. We make a file. If the point is something under the tree with a postmark on it, a package service is the right answer and we are not.
- You want the highest-end filmed production. A large library service with a real actor and a real film crew will out-produce a generated video on pure polish. That is a fair trade to be aware of.
- You want a fully personalized video for nothing. Our free options are a short cartoon Santa message and a printable letter; the full video, with the choice of Santa and all the detail, is paid. If free-and-done is the requirement, Hey Santa is the honest recommendation.
- You want to put a relative’s face on Santa. We don’t do that and won’t — it is a deliberate decision about children’s data rather than a missing feature. If it is what you want, look elsewhere; there are very few options.
- You already pay for a video SaaS. If you have a Synthesia or HeyGen seat for work, use it. Paying us as well would be silly.
The one thing we’d push back on. Be careful with “free” that means a trial. Several services in this space start a subscription that renews in January, when nobody is thinking about Santa videos. Check what you are agreeing to before entering a card, whoever you buy from.

Should I trust a comparison written by one of the companies?
Read it sceptically, including this one. The useful test is whether the page tells you when to choose somebody else — and then whether the free version backs up what it claims.
